Native wildflowers for marginal areas in gardens and rock gardens

Many areas are not used in land use called marginal areas.  These areas exist along the edges.

agriculture, on steep slopes or too small to have cultivation, poor soil or other conditions, too rocky.

What to plant in

Sandy soil? clay soil? poor or depleted soils? dry soils, rocky soil?  There are plants fit for all of these different types of conditions and gardens made around these challenges.

I like the idea of flowers growing in places that do not need fertilizers or so pampered.  For example, my Aquilegia loves to reseed itself in the sidewalk cracks, all random, but never where you plan it.

Native wildflowers are ideal for the sustainable environments because native wildflowers do not need fertilizers.  In fact, they do not need much water the second year they come up.

They have adapted and found growing here since colonial times, years here,

in the United States as considered a native perennial.

define before or native.?

Sedums are the same, used for green roofs, because lightweight surface roots and likes gravelly bits and not so much water.

Rock gardens are fascinating.  Wildflowers grow among large limestone and sandstone rocks, common to find in PA, a beautiful contrast.
